King Odimars captured ...

continued from the previous post ....

---oXo---

Graculus was awakened by the shouting of men conducting a search.  He got his bearings - in the daylight he could see where he was - he recognised the place it was Kragerheim, he had been here a few years ago with Noggin to visit King Odimars. He moved cautiously up into a small wooded area overlooking the edge of the town..
He edged forward and looked out from cover; surely not he thought - yes it was Nogbad and who was he with ? Graculus listened to what they were saying...

Nogbad: No sign of them up here Angstromsen
Angstromsen: Yes and no help from your useless lot; you and your men attacking to soon yesterday - the alarm was raised and the rest have got away.
 Nogbad:Well we got King Odimars
Angstromsen: The Queen and their son have got away; where could they have gone ?
Nogbad: Maybe north to seek refuge in Nogland, probably via the pass at Snorriskar.
Angstromsen: I'll send some lightly armed men over the hills to try and intercept them ...
Nogbad: What's that - I thought I heard something in the wood over there...
Angstromsen: Get some of the men to search it - just in case ...

Graculus slipped back deeper into the wood and out the back and took off getting into the air as quick as possible flying low to start with then up and northwards keeping an eye on the ground; after about a hour he saw a small party with some wagons heading north,
Graculus flew on till he reached the mountains of Oppland and the pass at Snorriskar. This southerly outpost of Nogland consisted of a wall across the steeply sided valley with Brodgar's tower in the middle.  He knew the commander of the garrison there and landed to tell him he may have to provide help to some refugees..
then he took off and again and started the long flight back - he had to tell Noggin what had happened to King Odimars .....

Graculus flies south .....

Graculus had been talking to Beornwulf about his quest and said he had heard of activity to the south from some of his cousins and that he would fly down that way to see if there was any sign of the viking Angstrom Angstromsen.

The next day Graculus set off for the flight south, he was looking forward to the pleasures of a long flight.  He flew out from from Nogland - after a little while he started his ascent ...
He flew inland a bit and enjoyed the spectacle of falls at Odinsfoss
Then he flew up higher and higher ....
Getting his bearings he flew south and slowly came down under the clouds and looked into fjords and vallies as he went...
Nothing much in one just a farmers cabin ...
 A small settlement in another
Then a wide fjord with rich farm lands ...

it was getting dark and he was now getting tired and flew down to land slightly further up the fjord where the rocky sides started to rise - then he saw the longboats and wheeled into land - coming close to one of them -
fortunately the sentry didn't see him and he sought cover in some bushes by the waters edge to rest .....

 what will Graculus find ?

Boernwulf back on his feet ....

A week after his arrival in the Northlands, Beornwulf  had gone down with a feverish illness which lasted many days;  King Noggin's physicians had done what they could; after 3 weeks his fever broke and he awoke - but very weak.  Beornwulf's companion Iliana (last of Orb Maiden Warriors) had looked after him while he was ill.
 ---oXo---

A couple of weeks later Beornwulf was strong enough to walk and ventured outside with Iliana, King Noggin was pleased to see he was better....
They walked out into the farmland near the capital, stopping to watch men from the local levy practising with their slings ...
as they walked on they passed a couple of the locals working in the fields ...
they reached the monastery of St Olaf's, where they watched the fighting monks practising their martial arts
they paused in the monastery church for a rest and to pray. On returning they met up with Graculus ...who accompanied them back to their quarters..
